A physical therapist is coming to see you.
A physical therapist helps people with their ability to move around and get stronger after being sick or injured.
An occupational therapist is coming to see you.
An occupational therapist helps people build and maintain the skills they need to recover from illness or injury.
A speech therapist is coming to see you.
A speech therapist can help you with many different skills, like feeding and communicating.

Vitals
I am going to check your temperature (heart rate, blood pressure).

An echocardiogram creates a picture of your heart beat on the computer.

This medicine will dissolve in your mouth.

Toileting/grooming/clothing
I am going to change you into hospital clothes.

Studies/Procedures
Blood draws/IVs
We are going to take blood for lab tests
We are going to place an IV in you and take blood for lab tests. An IV is a thin plastic tube that we can use to place fluid in your veins. We will use a needle to put the IV in.

This may hurt, but we are going to put some medication on your skin so it will hurt less.
We need you to stay still while we do this.
We are going to hold you while we do this.

Urinalysis/culture/samples
I need a urine sample for a lab test.
First I am going to clean your skin.
Please use these wipes to clean your skin.
I am going to place a plastic catheter into your bladder to collect urine. A catheter is a thin tube that lets the urine drain out. Then I will take the catheter out and send the urine to the lab.
Please pee in this cup and leave it in the bathroom so we can send the urine to the lab.
Bedside radiology
We are going to take a radiograph. We will bring the radiograph machine in this room.
We are going to do an ultrasound. We will bring the ultrasound machine in this room.
We will get an interpreter to explain the results when we get them.
Transport
Someone from our transport team is coming to take you to radiology.
Someone from our transport team is coming to take you to the procedure.
Someone from our transport team is coming to take you to your new room in the hospital.
